Barrett-Jackson Countdown: 918 Porsche Spyder the most advanced hybrid

-

When it comes to performance hybrid vehicles, nothing comes close to the 918 Porsche Spyder. No other hybrid can achieve 0-60 mph faster, and the hybrid Spyder has even matched the quarter-mile time of the legendary 427 Shelby Cobra.

Powered by a 608 horsepower 4.6-liter mid-engine V8 with 285 additional horsepower from electric motors, all linked to a 7-speed PDK transmission, and with a combination of 4-wheel drive coupled with 4-wheel steering, the Spyder can draw on 994 foot-pounds of torque.

But when it’s not tearing up the track, the 918 boasts 40-55 miles per gallon in hybrid mode.

This particular 918 comes with an essential front-axle lift to protect the front fascia. Riding on optional magnesium wheels, the car has a Black Onyx interior accented with silver piping and comes with the upgraded Comfort Heating Package.

Outside of the occasional software and hardware recalls initiated by Porsche, this car performs flawlessly. It was maintained exclusively by a Porsche dealer and stored securely indoors. It’s only been driven 3,507 miles and has yet to be unleashed on the track.

Barrett-Jackson’s 47th annual Scottsdale auction is scheduled for January 13-21 at the Westworld complex.
