Review: 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport-L

A smooth operating updated Honda

-

What’s often considered to be the ideal car for first-time buyers is back with a fresh new look. So, how does the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport-L live up to the Accord legacy? The car we tested is priced at $34,970.00, however the base model begins at $27,295. The more powerful twin motors in this Accord put out 181 horsepower, while the 2.0L inline 4-cylinder engine puts out 146 hp. Combined, the total system power comes out to 204 hp, which is two horses more than the previous model. A great selling point is gas mileage, where you can expect to get 46 driving in the city, 41 on the highway, for a combined 44 mpg. Make sure to watch the video below for more features that make it a great first car or an upgrade for any Honda fan.

The first thing you’ll notice, after the sharp Radiant Red Metallic paint, is the sleek, elongated body on this Accord. It has a longer hood, blacked-out LED headlights, and a new upright grille in gloss black. Even better, these air curtain inlets are functional, allowing for improved airflow. The red paired with the black accents and trim throughout the car really give you the Sport model vibe. The upper character lines give this Accord a sense of motion, and the rear features a decklid spoiler and distinctive LED taillights.

Hopping inside, the 12.3-inch touchscreen display shines brightly. Youngsters rejoice, as the infotainment system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. However, what we were missing was the heated steering wheel from the 2023 Honda CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid. But don’t fret; the comfy leather seats are heated and will get you toasty in a matter of minutes. The new frame and cushion perfect posture and stability. Although there is no Bose premium sound system, music lovers will enjoy the powerful 8-speaker sound system.

Did somebody say smooth? Oh wait…I did! Most people know Hondas are smooth, but for the 2023 model they really brought their “A” game. This Accord has smoother steering through reduced friction, leading to less understeer. The bushing rotation axis has also been optimized, allowing the car to seemingly glide. Visibility has increased this year by moving the windshield wipers out of view when not in use, which is great for us in the desert who don’t use them that much (except for the last few weeks, if you’ve been paying attention). The safety and driver-assistive technology have also been improved. The lane assist is like a gentle tug on the shoulder guiding you back to the center of the lane during those long commutes. The different drive modes each offer something unique, and I was pleasantly surprised at how responsive eco-mode was.
