Fifth-Gen Ford F-Series Gets a Power Boost, Modern Tricks

Velocity Restorations in Florida now taking orders for custom trucks

-

Ford’s full-size F-Series pickups are a favorite in the classic car community, and an innovative specialty facility in Florida is now making this platform in a prime candidate for go-fast restomod treatment.

The F-Series’ fifth generation, offered from 1967 through 1972, holds distinct nostalgia for many folks. During that era, the pickup’s styling was sharpened, side marker lights were added, cab size was increased, and the exterior received new badging and grille arrangements. This generation of trucks was one of Ford’s most diverse in history, offered in six different wheelbases, a variety of trim levels, and more than a dozen engine configurations.

Many Ford pickups from the late 1960s and early 1970s lived long and productive lives as capable workhorses and camping rigs, and most have been put to pasture now that about fifty years have passed in the meantime.

Now, that same truck platform is providing a blank canvas for custom builds from a specialty shop called Velocity Modern Classics, located near Pensacola, Florida. Velocity is no stranger to vintage Ford performance; it has already built a reputation as an expert in first-generation Bronco restoration. The shift into pickup modernization is the next phase of the company’s catalog.

The already-solid fifth-generation F-Series is being transformed into a venerable street-performer. Velocity recently released some of the details about its trucks, which are now available for order. The idea behind the program is to provide people with a vintage turnkey driver, complete with a 5.0-liter V8 motor along with modern amenities.

Following are some of the highlights for the “Signature” Edition:

  • Gen III Coyote V8 (460 horsepower, 420 lb-ft of torque)
  • 10-speed automatic transmission
  • Fox coilover suspension
  • Baer four-piston calipers with 13-inch rotors
  • LED headlights
  • 18-inch wheels
  • Dakota Digital instruments
  • RetroSound audio system
  • Vintage Air HVAC
  • Wood steering wheel
  • Tilt-adjustable Ididit steering column

Ramping things up a notch from there is the “Street” Edition which increases the size of the calipers, rotors, and wheels. It also adds leather seating, billet hardware, an Alpine double-din head unit, and additional exterior enhancements. This video gives a teaser-style glimpse of the truck’s aesthetics and sound.

Velocity CEO Jeremy Hans said, “The Velocity F-100 is a testament to our passion for bringing these incredible classic vehicles back into the modern world. There is such rich history behind these trucks, and we’re excited to see them back on the road.” It’s no wonder Velocity’s slogan is “Made Modern; Kept Timeless.”

Interested in a custom truck of your own? Getting in line for a 14-week build requires a $25,000 deposit, and the total vehicle price depends on options but will include the cost of the donor vehicle.

  1. This is great news. Wonderful! Now I can avoid buying a new truck with all those absolutely ridiculous features “they” mandate on today’s (and tomorrow’s) new cars and trucks. Get a new truck that is a real truck. Thank you, I’m your newest customer.
