Of the 1,750 vehicles on the docket for Mecum’s 28th annual Las Vegas vintage motorcycle auction scheduled for January 22-26 at the South Point arena and adjacent equestrian center Priefert Pavilion, only 235 are coming from the heralded MC Collection of Stockholm, Sweden.
While those motorcycles will be highly featured at the auction, they aren’t the only coveted machines that will cross the auction block. Indeed, 10 other private collections have consigned motorcycles to the sale, which is the largest such motorcycle auction on the planet.
“Following last year’s phenomenal $13-million-plus in sales and 92-percent sell-through rate, the Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction is certain to again cement its title as the world’s premier vintage motorcycle auction,” Mecum motorcycle division head Ron Christenson is quoted in the pre-auction news release.
“For 2019, a significant increase in consignments has only served to enhance the attention that the auction already receives from collectors and enthusiasts globally.”
“The annual event is recognized as the largest global familial-like gathering of consignors, buyers and spectators that share a passion for the history, beauty and camaraderie invoked and inspired by vintage and antique motorcycles,” Mecum Auctions added.
The MC Collection features a 1939 Crocker Big Tank bike, but it is only one of three Crockers on the auction docket. Also crossing the block will be a 1937 Small Tank 61-25 from the Venice 1346 Crocker Collection and an original-condition 1934 Speedway Racer from the Dick Shappy Collection.
Albert Crocker produced only a few more than 100 motorcycles, ending production as World War II began.
Other featured motorcycles include, and at no reserve, the Rickey Jensen Indian Collection that includes 15 “barn-found” Indian motorcycles, ranging from a 1908 Single Camelback to a 1948 Chief, as well as hundreds of items of Indian memorabilia.
The Bob Weaver collection has consigned 55 machines, and the dirt-bike-oriented Moto Armory is sending more than 30.
