More than 1,700 vehicles were on display this past weekend at the 2019 Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals, staged for the 34th year by Carlisle Events at its home-field fairgrounds in Pennsylvania.
Among the special displays were 80 years of motorized bikes, trikes and scooters produced in France; another showcasing French cars; yet another with dune buggies; and another featuring import supercars, including the Subaru WRX STI.
Outdoors, vehicles were parked by country of origin, “guests could literally walk around the world, all within the 82-acre facility,” Carlisle Events said in its news release.
Among the largest of those groupings were those by owners of Saabs, and those celebrating Citroen’s centennial. The Citroen showcase included seminars on the company’s history and a parade of cars around the fairgrounds.
“Summer of ’69” is a theme for all of the 2019 Carlisle Events this year and those participating in the burnout competition could win $69 in cash if they smoked a tire within a 69-second time limit. There also were drift limbo, rolling exhaust, low-car limbo and drifting and autocross events hosted by the NICOClub.
Carlisle’s next gathering is the Ford Nationals, scheduled for May 31-June 2.
