A pair of pre-war bikes — a 1929 Cleveland tornado and a 1913 Harley-Davidson — shared the top sales spot at Mecum’s June 2018 Vintage and Antique Motorcycle Auction at the South Point hotel and casino in Las Vegas, where each sold for $88,000.
Overall, the two-day auction delivered 271 motorcycles to new owners for a total of $3 million.
“Once again, high-quality motorcycles saw their status confirmed on the auction block,” auction manager Greg Arnold was quoted in Mecum’s news release.
The 1929 Cleveland Tornado Four Cylinder was part of the Jim Lattin Collection. The streamline “long tank” bike is one of only two known to exist. It was part of the Harrah’s Museum Collection and has been owned by Lattin since 1983.
The 1913 Harley 9A 5-35 Single still wears its original paint and leather belt drive but has a professionally restored engine.
Prices reported for those and other bikes include buyer’s fee.
