AutoHunter Spotlight: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS/RS Sport Coupe

This car hits a home run

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS/RS Pete Rose Hit King Edition 6-Speed.

Sporting events and sports cars can be linked in ways you never thought possible. Did you know that there was a special edition of the fifth-generation Camaro dedicated specifically to baseball legend Pete Rose? By the time he had retired from his 23-year career in Major League Baseball in 1986, Rose had achieved 4,256 total hits. And even now, 38 years later, that record has not been matched or beaten.

Today’s featured (and aptly named) Victory Red Camaro pays homage to Pete’s achievement, and it shows only 5,400 original miles on the odometer. The car is being offered for sale with a clear CARFAX report by a private seller in Lexington, North Carolina, and the auction ends Friday.

There were 27 Camaros created for this regional Cincinnati promotion – and as to why that number was chosen, I have not yet been able to track down. The starting point for the build was a 2SS/RS sport coupe – which in itself was a notoriously performance-focused machine right out of the box. The exterior has just a couple of subtle cues about the Hit King package: There are emblems on the front fenders and black decals on the rear quarters. Midnight Silver 20-inch wheels on Pirelli tires provide the needed traction.

Pete, who is now 82 years old and retired in Las Vegas, is undoubtedly proud of the fact that Chevrolet optioned this limited-edition Camaro with a powerful drivetrain: Momentum comes from an LS3 6.2-liter V8 mated to a TREMEC TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission. From the factory, this combination was good for 426 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.

No collector car is complete without supporting documentation and swag. This Camaro comes with an uninstalled Pete Rose-signed engine cover and unopened Hit King edition floor mats. That’s in addition to the already-installed equipment like branded headrests and a special placard in the center console.

My only question is, did the owner think to take a picture when the odometer rolled 4,256 miles? That would have made for appropriate occasion to document. If not, there’s still a chance to try for something at 14,256.

The auction for this 2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS/RS Pete Rose Hit King Edition 6-Speed ends Friday, April 12, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. (PDT)
