AutoHunter Spotlight: 1972 Chevrolet C20 Pickup

Two-tone “Action Line” truck is ready for the street or show

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1972 Chevrolet C20 Pickup.

Truck engineering has come a long way in the last 50 or so years. Today’s Chevrolet pickups are so advanced that they can even drive themselves, thanks to hands-free “Super Cruise” driver-assistance technology. New Chevy trucks also come with advanced trailer-towing equipment, eight available cameras (with 14 different views!), and power up/down tailgates. Chevrolet promotes its trucks with the tagline, “So powerful, you’ll feel unstoppable.”

As nice as it must be to have a truck that can basically do everything for you, there is something to be said for old-school simplicity. With that in mind, how about a nicely restored classic C20 with just a few modern upgrades? We have just the truck in mind. It is being listed by a dealer in Gladstone, Oregon, and the auction will end on Tuesday.

This blue and white two-tone restomod pickup hails from the second generation of the Chevrolet C/K Series, which became known as the Action Line (spanning 1967 through 1972). A facelift was applied in 1971 with a new eggcrate grille, standard front-wheel disc brakes, and interior upgrades. A few custom touches have been added that bring this 1972-model into the modern era, such as four-wheel disc brakes, staggered 20-inch and 22-inch US Mags wheels, and a reupholstered black and houndstooth interior.

In the place of the truck’s original 350cid V8 is a 327cid small-block mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. A dual exhaust system ensures that all eight cylinders’ voices are heard loud and clear. This truck could be considered one of the last of its kind, since the following model year brought the introduction of Chevrolet’s long-lived “Rounded Line” generation for 1973.

I like how this build was well-thought-out, but also restrained. Aside from the footwork and stance, the body lines, brightwork, and moldings are all true to the truck’s iconic original shape. If you want a truck that can handle the occasional chore, turn heads at the local cruise-in, and still deliver creature comforts like air conditioning, power steering, and a Bluetooth radio, this C20 is right up your alley. Besides, who needs a power-folding tailgate anyway?

The auction for this 1972 Chevrolet C20 Pickup ends Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. (MST)
