New Speed Champions set not just for kids

-

How many toys from your childhood continue to exist today? It seems everyone had LEGOs at one point or another, and the tradition continues today with the LEGO Speed Champions series. The latest and greatest to appear on toy shelves is a miniature-scale replica of BMW M Team WRT’s M Hybrid V8 and the M4 GT3, the actual cars slated to run at Le Mans this coming June.

Unleashed upon unsuspecting enthusiasts just a few days ago, this Speed Champions set consists of 676 pieces that add up to two competition Bimmer builds that stand out with their BMW M Motorsport signage and colors, “prominent” diffuser elements, “visually striking” exhaust tailpipes, and “eye-catching” spoilers, plus an interior that reflects an attention to detail in that special LEGO way. The set also includes two minifigures, though their nationality is not specified.

Each car can be built with the LEGO Builder app, which guides you and/or your child through “an easy and intuitive building adventure.” LEGO recommends this building set for kids nine years and older. It’s available at LEGO.com and elsewhere for the very reasonable price of $44.99.

Diego Rosenberg
Lead Writer Diego Rosenberg is a native of Wilmington, Delaware and Princeton, New Jersey, giving him plenty of exposure to the charms of Carlisle and Englishtown. Though his first love is Citroen, he fell for muscle cars after being seduced by 1950s finned flyers—in fact, he’s written two books on American muscle. But please don’t think there is a strong American bias because foreign weirdness is never far from his heart. With a penchant for underground music from the 1960-70s, Diego and his family reside in the Southwest.
