AutoHunter Spotlight: 2003 Lincoln Town Car Signature

Peak “Panther Platform” example with only 56,000 miles

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 2003 Lincoln Town Car Signature.

This full-sized luxury sedan has led a leisurely life and accrued just 56,785 miles in its lifespan of 21 years. Like many executive-focused large cars, it was initially sold as a corporate fleet vehicle when it was first titled in Georgia in February 2003. Subsequently, its accident-free ownership went on to span Fort Myers, Florida for many years and then the car finally made its way to Texas for roughly the past decade. It is now being offered by a private seller in Rockdale, Texas, and the auction ends on Wednesday.

Targeting luxury sedans from other brands like Cadillac and Chrysler, the Town Car replaced the Continental as the Lincoln brand’s full-sized offering beginning in model year 1981. The third generation, as seen in today’s featured car, was dubbed the FN145 internally and assembled from 1998 through 2011.

When compared to its predecessor, this model was shorter by a few inches, but it grew two inches in width and one inch in height. It rode on the popular Panther platform, which was used from 1979 to 2012 and underpinned many of Ford Motor Company’s cars including the Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis, in addition to Lincoln models. All of these cars fell under the full-sized, body-on-frame, rear-wheel drive category. Additionally, all Panther vehicles were V8-powered, though displacements varied over the years.

Today’s low-mileage Autumn Red car receives momentum from a Modular 4.6-liter V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, and this drivetrain was rated from the factory at 239 horsepower and 287 lb-ft of torque. As would be expected for a badge-engineered vehicle such as this, the Town Car’s interior shared a lot of similarities with its siblings from Ford and Mercury – of course adding a few niceties that were exclusive to the high-end Lincoln line.

The seller says that the oil was changed within the last 1,000 miles, and the CARFAX report shows that the transmission fluid was changed in 2017. These cars (and other Panther vehicles) are known to be extremely reliable. This is one of the reasons that so many Crown Victorias have been used in law enforcement capacities over the years. The performance, safety, reliability, and cost-efficiency of these cars have been proven.

If you are looking for a low-mileage ride with a ride and plenty of life left to live, this Town Car is ready to transport you with both status and comfort.

The auction for this 2003 Lincoln Town Car Signature ends Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. (MST)
