AutoHunter Spotlight: 1997 GMC Yukon GT 4×4

Sub-60,000-mile Yukon is ready for action

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1997 GMC Yukon GT 4×4.

The sport-utility craze built serious momentum in the 1990s, and domestic manufacturers were key players in the game. According to sales data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, sales of all types of SUVs increased by 70% between model years 1994 and 1999. One of the vehicles launched during that era was the GMC Yukon – and a particularly well-kept Yukon is being offered up for grabs this week. It is being sold by a private party in Brampton, Ontario, and the auction will end on Wednesday.

The Black Cherry Red exterior of this 1997 Yukon is striking in the sunlight, and it has reportedly remained rust-free thanks to garage-kept storage during the Canadian winter seasons. A few upgrades have been added to make this ride a little more unique, including a set of chrome 16-inch Cadillac Escalade wheels, side steps, window visors, a brush guard, and a dual exhaust system.

The Yukon and its badge-engineered sibling, the Chevrolet Tahoe, rode on the General Motors pickup GMT400 platform when they launched beginning in model year 1992. The Yukon was offered only as a two-door for its first three model years, and a four-door was added to the mix in 1995. Because of its half-ton pickup truck underpinnings, the Yukon quickly developed a reputation for its rugged capabilities.

Best of all, this was an off-roader that still delivered creature comforts like power-adjustable leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, tinted windows, and an AM/FM/CD audio system. Under the hood, power came from a Vortec 5.7-liter small-block V8 mated to an automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case (this combination was good for 255 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque when new).

The CARFAX on today’s featured vehicle is as squeaky-clean as they come, showing accident-free ownership in Ontario since new. Mechanical work within the last year included an oil change along with replacement of the brake pads, rotors, wipers, and wiper motor in November 2023. The current odometer reading is 95,998 kilometers, which comes out to fewer than 60,000 original miles. This Yukon is ready to hit the road for a long life ahead.

In recent years, some graphic artists have speculated about what a modern-day Yukon GT might look like. Here is a link to some of the renderings they created. I admit I am a fan of the results, so maybe GMC should bring it back for reals!
