The world’s greatest cars at the world’s greatest car collector auction

-

Friday was great. Even Sammy Hagar took the mic on stage in the evening, surprising folks who stayed for the big cars on the block. But none of that prepared anyone for what was going to go down on Saturday at the 2024 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.

2018 Bugatti Chiron

A 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL “Gullwing” Coupe garnered a top bid of $3,410,000 and, in turn, a new owner. There were several late-model supercars/hypercars on the docket, but the classic came out on top.

Lead Writer Diego Rosenberg is a native of Wilmington, Delaware and Princeton, New Jersey, giving him plenty of exposure to the charms of Carlisle and Englishtown. Though his first love is Citroen, he fell for muscle cars after being seduced by 1950s finned flyers—in fact, he’s written two books on American muscle. But please don’t think there is a strong American bias because foreign weirdness is never far from his heart. With a penchant for underground music from the 1960-70s, Diego and his family reside in the Southwest.

  1. So many nice cars at BJ. Especially Vettes, T birds, Porsche. The biggest bargains? Bently GT’s. Almost 50 of them sold from $35K to $65 K, friend on age and miles. Ask looked great. Why so cheap? It can only be from the maintenance cost. The older ones still look good without much change over the years. They can’t cost that much to maintain can they?
