Pick of the Day: 2016 Nissan GT-R

A Supercar, for Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime

-

Sometimes a car company will surprise us. Porsche releases an affordable car in 1997 called the Boxster, Alfa Romeo launches the 4C, and in the world of Japanese car manufacturers this happened in 2007 when Nissan created what is a true supercar for the rest of us with the Nissan GT-R.

The GT-R was not a new version of the Skyline, which was based on a sedan platform from the start, but instead a new design on a brand new platform. It was created as the help car for what Nissan called their “Revival Plan,” an effort to return Nissan to profitability.

The chief designer of the GT-R, Hiroshi Hasegawa, spent more than four years leading the design of both the exterior and interior of the GT-R to create a supercar design able to compete with the likes of Lamborghini, Porsche, and Ferrari while also having a strong emphasis. He worked in conjunction with chief engineer, Kazutoshi Mizuno, to build a car that would not only compete with, but surpass, the European supercar offerings. The key difference was these would be sold at an affordable price. They accomplished their goal perfectly and demonstrated this when they completed a lap of the Nürburgring in a production car with a record setting time of 7 minutes 38.58 seconds. This beat the Porsche 911 Turbo’s previous record of 7 minutes and 40 seconds. They launched the car calling it “A supercar, for Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime.”

The Pick of the Day is one of these amazing cars, a 2016 Nissan GT-R Premium located at a dealer in Jackson, Mississippi.

This car is painted in Jet Black over a semi-inline tan leather interior. The seller states that the leather seats are in excellent condition, and have matching tan/ black leather trim and carbon fiber accents throughout, providing what they car both comfort and sophistication to its occupants. Features include power seats and a Bose advanced infotainment system.

Under the hood, the car is equipped with its powerful 3.8L V6 DOHC Twin Turbocharged engine featuring 545 hp and at 463 lb-ft of torque. Some people do not realize this but each GT-R engine is hand-assembled from beginning to end in a special clean room by specially trained technicians, in a process similar to racing powerplant construction. An aluminum plate is added to the front of each engine showing the name of the “Takumi” engine craftsman.

This GT-R also features stock alloys wearing Michelin Pilot Sport tires, providing ample traction for the extreme power the GT-R delivers. How fast is the GT-R? Well in stock form it covers 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 196 MPH.

Now for the other selling points. This 2016 Nissan GT-R Premium has covered a total of only 48,277 miles, includes a warranty, and has an asking price of $72,995 making it a true bargain supercar and one capable of keeping up with or more likely passing the best that the Europeans have to offer, and unlike them you can get your GT-R serviced at your local Nissan dealer.

  1. In the heading you mention that these cars are classics. They are NOT classics. These are little boy toys. Vehicles need to be a minimum of 35 years old to be considered a classic.

  2. @ Grant: The Journal is an online automotive magazine dedicated to everything related to cars and car culture for automotive enthusiasts. We are powered by ClassicCars.com, however have never claimed to be specifically classic car related. You’re welcome to check out the thousands of articles we have about classic cars. ClassicCars.com itself also offers a variety of vehicles for sale, beyond the typical “classic car.”

  3. Grant, age usually determines what’s an antique. Hobbyists determine what’s classic. GT-Rs have been hot since new and even before thanks to certain automotive movies over the past 20 years.
