Pick of the Day: 1963 Flxible-Buick Hearse

Drop-dead gorgeous classic Buick

-

Within the next month, neighborhoods across the nation will begin to don Halloween-themed garb. Wouldn’t a hearse look right at home in the driveway with your skeletons and other holiday decor?

The Pick of the Day is a 1963 Flxible-Buick hearse listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Lexington, Kentucky. (Click the link to view the listing)

“Flawless Wildcat V8, automatic transmission, brakes, and all mechanical functions,” the listing begins. “Frame and body are in excellent shape too.”

This hearse is based on the LeSabre wagon, a name that has had a history with Buick from 1959 through 2005. This example comes from the second-generation LeSabre, which launched in model year 1961, leveraging Bill Mitchell’s design prowess. Design elements include quad fender-mounted VentiPorts – interestingly, an Electra feature used on this LeSabre-based hearse.

This Flxible-Buick was customized on “Day 2” and put to use in the funeral industry, where it accrued about 80,000 miles (or perhaps 180,000).

Flxible was founded in 1913 in Ohio and produced vehicles such as motorcycle sidecars, hearses, ambulances, transit buses, and other custom creations.

Power for this luxo-hearse comes from the Wildcat 445, aka the 401cid “Nailhead” V8, which provides ample torque to haul around the passengers and cargo needed for a funeral home’s day-to-day operations. The seller notes that there are a few rust spots present, but the car presents well overall and has been garage-kept. For being 60 years old, it sure looks well preserved in the photos. Included in the listing is a video with a start-up, a demonstration of the windshield wipers and lighting, an exterior walkaround, and a driving demonstration from inside the vehicle.

Worth noting: Buick has resurrected the Electra name for a lineup of new electric vehicles. The first is a compact crossover called the Electra E5 which is being produced in China.

The asking price is $22,500 for this 1963 Flxible-Buick hearse. It’s bound to turn heads during the upcoming holiday (and year-round).
