Chances are you know who Robert Downey Jr. is. Did you know he has a car collection? And, thanks to the RDJ Dream Cars Sweepstakes, you can be one of six winners who will receive a classic car.
And what are these classics? Pull up a chair and let’s examine:
- 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
- 1966 Buick Riviera
- 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE
- 1972 Chevrolet K10 Pickup
- 1972 VW Bus
- 1985 Chevrolet El Camino
Since these six cars are being given away by a Hollywood celebrity, there’s gotta be a catch — and you would not be wrong. In this case, “each … of these beauties [were] converted to drive to a pollution-free future.” Sound scary? Bless your collective hearts, my friends, but there’s nothing to fear here: all but the Chevy K10 and VW Bus have been converted to EV power, so the “cool cars” are still powered by internal combustion.
Nonetheless, how else have the cars been modified to be more Earth-friendly?
- The Corvette features a mushroom-based leather alternative from Ecovative. Only mushrooms have been harmed in the process.
- The Riv features a prototype water cooler system that uses a new air quality sensor that allows the driver to gather real-time air quality data anywhere (s)he drives.
- The Mercedes features a modern diesel engine that was converted to run on biodiesel, plus it features a synthetic suede-like interior that comes from recycled bottles.
- The Chevrolet K10 uses a converted Tesla drivetrain.
- The VW Bus uses a custom-built BBQ that’s recharged via solar panels, and the set of surfboards were made from recycled Firewire material.
- The El Camino features two miniature solar panels that charges a pair of Rad Runner electrobikes.
The sweepstakes is being spearheaded by the FootPrint Coalition, a coalition of investors, donors, and more. Founded by Robert Downey Jr., the coalition promotes sustainability via investing in high-growth, sustainability-focused companies, making charitable grants to non-profits that advance the adoption of environmental technology, and creating content to inform and mobilize the public.

I’m a disabled Veteran that would love to win any of your beautiful cars ans really love the Buick and the Vett but I can’t drive a Stick shift with one leg, Its kind of hard to push the clutch without a left leg.

Give me that vette…A vette for a (U. S. Marine disabled veteran). I love that year 1965. That’s the year my brother was born, who recently died of kidney cancer. I’ve been watching your movies loved “Less than Zero” dude you are the ultimately come back story, like myself I’ve recently had a liver transplant and the nurses and doctors at the VA thought I wouldn’t make it, but I did (that was April 4th 2016) and I’m still here and doing good. I’ve got a 3 car garage just waiting for the 1965 convertible corvette to arrive. Wish me luck!
I looked, but can find a reason to own any of these vehicles. How about giving each them to a single mother who needs transportation to and from work.
I would love to have a different vehicle.
I am also a recovering alcoholic and cocaine addicted I have been sober for 18 years and have just retired from a company I started after all that I have been helping others in my church that are having difficulties getting off all kinds of drugs thank you for a chance to win a car I have always wanted to own.
