This Poncho is powered by a 389 Trophy V8 with Tri-Power upgrade paired with a Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. The first three places in sales were traditionally held by Chevrolet, Ford, and Plymouth. But so great was Pontiac’s trajectory (especially after the “Wide-Track” 1959s) that it moved into the third spot in sales, something that would last through the decade. It’s not difficult to see why: strong styling and a sporty image went a long way in car-crazy America where the youths were taking over popular culture.

The suspension consists of an independent front setup and a solid rear axle. Power-assisted braking is provided by four-wheel drums.
