Pick of the Day: 2005 Nissan 350Z

Drop-top Z with NISMO goodies

-

The 350Z, known as the Fairlady Z in Japan, launched as a two-door, two-seat sports car in mid-2002 for the 2003 model year. It’s hard to believe this design is now 20 years old. A few standout examples are still out there in the collector marketplace, and today’s Yellow Pearl Tricoat example is right up there.

The Pick of the Day is a low-mileage 2005 Nissan 350Z roadster listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Franklin, North Carolina. (Click the link to view the listing)

“Yellow sports cars are rare but very noticeable,” the listing begins. “I am the second owner of this 350Z. The car is the Enthusiast edition, fully loaded with options, and has just undergone a thorough refresh at my local motorsports shop.”

The 350Z, known as the Fairlady Z in Japan, launched as a two-door, two-seat sports car in mid-2002 for the 2003 model year. The press release from the launch shared a quote by Carlos Ghosn, then-president of Nissan Motor Company: “The new Z promises to deliver the performance and high design qualities of today’s cutting-edge sports cars at a truly affordable price. Our overriding goal has been to build a memorable, no-compromise sports car while keeping the price under $30,000. This new Z meets all of our expectations. It is, quite simply, a stunning achievement.”

The Z roadster came with a power-retractable soft top for an open-air experience. Showing just 55,039 miles on the odometer, this 18-year-old ragtop Z has not been driven much. Still, the mechanical condition has been kept up to date for peace of mind. Power comes from a 3.5-liter VQ V6 paired with a six-speed manual transmission. This drivetrain was rated at 287 horsepower and 274 lb-ft of torque when new. The recent work that the seller mentioned included replacement of the engine oil, differential fluid, spark plugs, brake pads, and tires.

Many of these Z-cars were heavily modified by tuners and racers. This example has stayed true to its original equipment with exception of three upgrades from NISMO, Nissan’s in-house performance division. The added items include a cold air intake, headers, and a tuned dual exhaust system.

All that’s left to do with this bright yellow Z is to drive it and enjoy it. We bet the car sounds as great as it looks! The asking price is $38,000 for this low-mileage Z.
