AutoHunter Spotlight: 1983 Ford Mustang Convertible

Low-mileage Fox Body ‘vert ready for summer cruising

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1983 Ford Mustang GLX convertible.

This 1983 Ford Mustang GLX convertible has accrued only 58,512 miles and is powered by an Essex 3.8-liter V6 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. For being 40 years old, it reportedly has its original finishes, interior, and equipment, all of which demonstrates the care and preservation it has enjoyed over its lifetime. The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record, chronicling ownership in Ohio and Florida with the first record appearing in 2006. And best of all: this clean Fox Body Mustang is offered at no reserve, so the highest bid as of next Tuesday afternoon takes the car home!

The Fox Body Mustang has grown in popularity in the collector marketplace in recent years. This Mustang convertible comes from the third generation of Ford’s famous pony car which ran from model years 1979 through 1993. Enthusiasts usually group these Mustangs into two eras: the first was from 1979 through 1986 when the front clip had quad headlights (as shown here), and the second from 1987 through 1993 with composite headlamps.

The light blue exterior appears unmodified and the listing states that the finish shows well without noteworthy scratches or fading present. Completing the exterior are a white cloth retractable top, 14-inch steel wheels with wire hubcaps, and newer 205/70-sized tires.

Moving to the interior, we find the reportedly original red leather upholstery for the front buckets and rear bench. Options were relatively generous for this era including a tilt steering wheel, an Audiovox audio system, and woodgrain trim.

While some Fox Mustangs were known for their high-output 5.0-liter V8 powerplants, this example comes powered by an Essex 3.8-liter V6 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Recent maintenance included replacement of the fuel filter, fuel pump, and carburetor in December 2022. This Mustang convertible is ready to rock and roll with summer around the corner.

The auction for this 1983 Ford Mustang convertible ends on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. (PDT)
