Pick of the Day: 1985 Chevrolet Camaro

Ready to pop in the tape and cruise t-tops down

-

T-tops were a classic 1980s trademark. Picture yourself driving a muscle car with the tops off and the Delco AM/FM cassette blasting Billboard top 100 hits like “We Built This City” from Starship, “The Heat Is On,” from Glenn Frei, and “Take On Me” from A-ha. Now that you’re in the mindset:

The Pick of the Day is a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Stanton, California. (Click the link to view the listing)

“This Chevrolet Camaro is a beautiful Van Nuys built, one-owner vehicle with an awesome red paint and buffed clearcoat that really shines,” the listing states. “The body is excellent, straight, and rust-free, with great fit and finish.”

This Camaro comes from the third generation which launched initially in 1982 and lasted for a decade. One of the standout models from that era was the IROC-Z, introduced in 1985 and named after the International Race of Champions. The IROC was outfitted with many upgrades to the suspension, including larger sway bars, lowered ride height, and a steering brace. It also has special tires and staggered 16-inch cast-aluminum wheels, not to mention unique decals for visual appeal.

The odometer of this muscle car shows 3,810 miles which the seller states is indicative of 103,810 miles accrued. At nearly 40 years old, the exterior of the car shows well with its glossy red paint, bronze accents, fog lamps, three-piece lip spoiler, and color-keyed wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich tires. The car is sporting vintage blue California license plates.

The 2+2 cockpit conveys a two-tone theme with black and tan vinyl buckets up front and jump seats in the rear. Aside from an aftermarket Grant steering wheel and some carbon fiber center console overlays, the interior looks to be largely unmodified and even comes with a Delco AM/FM/cassette radio with a built-in equalizer.

Torque comes from a 305cid high-output V8, and recent service according to the listing included an oil change along with replacement of the battery, ignition, spark plugs and wires, fan belts, and more. Handling aids include power steering and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes.

“Imagine yourself driving down the road with the T-tops at home, wind in your hair, shifting this manual muscle car. It can be true!” the seller concludes.

The asking price is $18,500 or best offer for this Camaro. Period-correct soundtrack not included.
