Pick of the Day: 1929 Ford Model A

Ready for some fun in the sun

-

Released in 1962, the Beach Boys’ hit album “Surfin’ Safari” peaked at number 32 on the charts. Its catchy lyrics will most likely get stuck in your head after reading this verse:

Let’s go surfin’ now
Everybody’s learnin’ how
Come on and safari with me
(Come on and safari with)

And just in time for summer, your surf shuttle awaits:

The Pick of the Day is a 1929 Ford Model A listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Shawano, Wisconsin. (Click the link to view the listing)

“One-of-a-kind 1929 Ford Model A Woody surf wagon with matching longboard!” the seller states. This Model A wears a cheery yellow paint job and has reportedly won awards at local shows. One of the photos included with the listing shows the bare frame of the vehicle, demonstrating that its restoration was comprehensive. The seller adds a little more context to the vehicle’s history:

This Woody started out its life in California and still has the California license plate on it. Great advertising piece for your business, or fun to just cruise. Either way this car will turn heads,” the listing says.

The Model A replaced Ford’s popular Model T and had a lifespan which ran from 1928 through 1931. Pricing at the time ran from $385 to $1,400, and body Model A styles were available in variations including sedans, coupes, panel trucks, cabriolets, and more. This Woody wagon features dual-bar bumpers, a chrome radiator shell, running boards, chrome hubcaps, and – of course – the surfboard mounted on the rooftop. A wooden plank that serves as a rear bumper is also designed in the shape of a surfboard.

The beach theme continues to the interior which looks straight out of a Huntington Beach surf shop. Flowered leis are hanging from the rearview mirror, beach-themed stickers are plastered on the headliner, a hula doll on the dash, and a decal affixed from United States Surfing Association (USSA). The USSA, by the way, has been disbanded since 1967 but was a legit organization for a few years.

The listing concludes, “The fit and finish are outstanding, and the attention to detail is second to none, down to all the collectable surf decals inside the wagon. What are you waiting for? Don’t let this one get away.”

The asking price is $29,985 for this Model A. Pick it up and go hang ten!
