Pick of the Day: 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

Some collector cars are all about “show,” and some are all about “go.” This car packs plenty of both ingredients: its muscle car looks are backed up by a 580-horsepower supercharged V8.

“As new from original owner from my private collection, 909 miles of a true collector’s muscle car,” the listing states. This Camaro wears an exterior finish in Victory Red and is “loaded with options,” the seller states. At over a decade old, the car looks showroom-fresh — and it should, having accrued fewer than 1,000 miles on the odometer since being sold new. According to the listing, this one-owner vehicle has been part of a private collection.

This Camaro comes from the fifth generation which evoked an all-new redesign beginning with the car’s 2010 model year. The chassis used General Motors’ “Zeta” platform and could be optioned as either a coupe or a convertible. The reason why this car was big deal was because the Camaro name had been absent from the marketplace since 2002; General Motors wanted the new Camaro to unite customers with Camaro-related memories.

Never content to leave well enough alone, Chevrolet upped the ante just two years later in 2012 by launching a performance-engineered variant of the Camaro called the ZL1 at the Chicago Auto Show. Taking the already-potent SS model, the ZL1 received a higher-performance fuel system, engine and transmission coolers, heavy-duty universal joints, heat exchangers, a Magnetic Ride suspension, and Brembo brakes all the way around with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers in the rear. This car came as track-ready as it was street-ready.

Today’s feature ZL1 is optioned with equipment including a carbon fiber hood insert, polished cast-aluminum wheels, a rear spoiler, and a quad-outlet exhaust system. Its supercharged LSA 6.2-liter V8 feeds torque rearward through a Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission. The cockpit is similarly well-appointed, showing contrast red stitching and backrest embroidery on the black leather seats, as well as a Boston Premium Audio sound system, a head-up display, a mirror-mounted rearview camera.

A window sticker is reportedly included with the sale along with a ZL1 certification document.

The seller is asking $79,000 or best offer for this as-new Camaro which is a strong price for an even stronger car. There can’t be many of these left with odometer readings of fewer than four digits!
