You might not have known that lounge chairs have displacement statistics, but the seller of a Mercury Grand Marquis refers to it as a “302cid lounge chair.” This 22,000-mile time capsule is fresh out of a long-term estate and ready for a new owner.

“Second owner of this two-door gentleman’s automobile,” the listing states. “Blue leather inside, blue carpet, clean and shiny. Still has a new car smell.” A Marti report that accompanies the listing states that there were only 102 units produced in this color and trim combination of Oxford White over a Midnight Blue leather interior.
The odometer on this Grand Marquis shows 22,978 miles which the seller says is original. How did a car like this survive 38 years in such primo condition? The car was originally sold from Tom Botzum Lincoln-Mercury in Akron, Ohio on May 22, 1985. Its first owner reportedly kept it long-term until passing away, after which his widow kept it in the garage. Eventually she, too, passed away and the car became available as part of the estate. That’s where the current owner came into the picture, and the rest is history.
The seller states that mechanically, the car is sorted and ready to roll. “Work she needed to make a dependable driver included only minimal items,” the listing states. Under the hood, torque comes from a 302cid Windsor V8 mated to a column-shifted four-speed automatic transmission. The air conditioning blows cold, the rear brake calipers were replaced, and the whitewall tires are new.
There were nearly a million Grand Marquis produced for the generation between 1979 and 1991 (987,818 to be exact). Relatively few were made in a two-door body style, and even fewer can be found with fewer than 25,000 original miles on the odometer today.
“This fine vehicle may not be a high value target for the masses, but she is exactly as described and those of us grew up with real cars know what a rarity she is. She has the versatility for modifications, if that’s your thing, or to just have a great driver and go to the drive-in movies with the ol’ lady.”
The seller is asking $18,300 for this cream puff Grand Marquis, which might be the most comfortable 140-horsepower lounge chair to ever take you for a ride.

I once had an 83 GRAND MARQUIS Coupe, black over silver with plush red velvet interior. 🏆 Great luxury car with flair of a Coupe! Have subsequently had other GRAND MARQUIS, Town Cars, FLEETWOODS, and others. Unfortunately Cars like this coupe are long gone. Currently have beautiful low mileage Signature Limited and will never let it go. Someone is going to get a real gem with this beauty. Whoever gets it, treasure it!
