The party is almost over for the Ford GT but, before the lights are turned off, there is a track-only monster on the horizon. Inspired by the 1967 24 Hour of Le Mans-winning Ford GT Mk IV, the 2023 Ford GT Mk IV is a track-only beast that can be bought only by applying for one of the 67 limited-edition examples being built plus paying $1.7 million MSRP.
Working in conjunction with Multimatic, the 2023 GT Mk IV is a proper swan song for the Ford supercar that made its debut in the 2016 model year. Multimatic extended the GT’s wheelbase, developed its carbon fiber “Long Tail” race body and added its Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) race suspension. The specially engineered twin-turbo Ford EcoBoost engine is targeted to produce more than 800 horsepower. No formal vehicle specifications were available at the time of publishing this article.
“Multimatic’s brief was to create the most extreme final version of the Ford GT, and the Mk IV is the outcome,” says Larry Holt, executive vice president of Multimatic Special Vehicle Operations Group. “A unique larger displacement engine, proper racing gearbox, stretched wheelbase and truly radical body has resulted in an unprecedented level of performance.”
The hand-built GT Mk IV will be produced at Multimatic’s facility in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Client selections will be confirmed in the first quarter of 2023, with deliveries beginning in late spring 2023.
Ford is giving the GT a proper send-off with the track-only Mk IV. Its original intent with the current GT was to create a modern supercar based on one of its most successful race cars, and Ford pulled off the difficult task. By creating a tribute to one of the company’s greatest racing triumphs, Ford is respecting the past and embracing modern technology with the 2023 GT Mk IV.
“With an even higher-level of motorsport engineering and performance, plus a completely new carbon fiber body that is functional and striking, the Mk IV is the ultimate sendoff of the third-generation supercar,” says Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports.
