Porsche developed a light-weight military vehicle, and produced only 22 prototypes of the Type 597 “Jagdwagen”. The one being offered at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction is No. 5 and and it received a complete restoration.

“Offered here is the Type 597 chassis 0005, the fifth prototype produced by Porsche between January 1954 and December 1955,” the listing states. “Like the other prototype examples, it was most likely retained by the Porsche factory for some time after construction to be used in exhibitions for the Bundeswehr and other foreign militaries. A copy of its factory Kardex shows that it was subsequently sold to Löhr & Becker AG, the Porsche-Volkswagen distributor from Koblenz, Germany in late April of 1956.”

This amphibious 1955 Porsche Type 597 Jagdwagen prototype features a 1.5-liter flat-four engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and that set up was based on the Porsche 356 sportscar. Sotheby’s estimates that the Jagdwagen will have a hammer price of $725,000 – $775,000.

A 1968 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 prototype by Scaglietti is also being offered at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction. It’s the second of two prototypes and was on display at the 1970 New York Auto Show by Luigi Chinetti. Chassis No. 11001 maintains its numbers-matching engine and has had the same owner for the last 25-years.

“As a design exercise exploring the future model’s coachwork, this car was built on a 275 GTB/4 chassis and equipped with the 275’s 3.3-liter four-cam type 226 engine,” the listing states. “The exterior is a thoughtful combination of prior features from the 275 and future design cues that would emerge in the production-based 365, with a lower roofline and longer nose than the standard Daytona. While the rear end is almost identical to the eventual final design for the Daytona, with its squared-off fastback with quad taillamps, the front end is still firmly rooted in the 275, with the classic oval eggcrate grille and covered headlamps.”

Sotheby’s estimates that this Ferrari will sell for $2,250,000 – $3,000,000.

Webb’s, a New Zealand auction house, is offering a 1969 Ford Falcon XW GTHO Phase I on August 14. The Falcon GT-H.O. was developed as a homologation special and this example was the 46^th scheduled to be built out of 260 produced.

“This 1969 XW Ford Falcon XW GT HO was delivered new to Genders Motors of Lithgow, NSW, on 2 September 1969. Bob Genders and Joe Butta were drivers and car dealers’ sons,” the listing states. “Bob’s father was Basil Genders, the Ford dealer in Lithgow and Joe’s father was Angello Butta, of Austin and Butta Chrysler dealers in Lithgow. The pair had completed the previous year at Bathurst, racing in a Hillman Arrow, finishing in 36th position.

“Upon delivery of the new Falcon, the ‘Big Race’ – the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Bathurst – was scheduled for 5 October, leaving barely four weeks to prep the car. Conveniently, they did not have far to travel – Lithgow to Bathurst is only an hour’s drive. The pair in the GTHO qualified in at 24th, with the car numbered 63D and finished in 12th overall. Of 260 GT-HO’s built, 14 raced Bathurst; only 9 finished the race. In the D class, 63D finished 9th and was the 6th HO to finish. This was a credible result for what was ostensibly a couple of privateers with minimal corporate backing.”

This Falcon GT H.O. has 23,628 miles and the estimated hammer price is $570,000 – $650,000.

A 1965 Morris Mini Cooper S ‘1071’ (Mk1) with less than 40,000 miles and 56-years of current ownership is on the September docket at Classic Car Auctions of the United Kingdom. Owned by the seller since 1966, the accompanying MOT (Ministry of Transport) certificate was issued in October 1986 at 39,031 miles and this Mini Cooper has traveled 113-miles since then.

This Mini Cooper is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive example and all identification numbers are genuine, correct, and original. The registration number is original, and the sale includes an original ‘Passport to Service’ and a tax disc dated March 3, 1988. This car rolls but has not been started, and no attempt has been made to start it since it’s been awakened from its extended slumber.
