Paddles on the steering column, such as the one shown here for downshifts, can be used to change gears in the C8 Corvette, but there will be no clutch pedal and manual gearbox to manipulate | Chevrolet photos

My take? Yes, you get some driving excitement with both hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

  1. I don’t use the paddle shifters in my car. I figure the modern electronic transmission can do a much better job than I can.

  2. They’re fine if you’re on a straight road but a pain through the twists and turns. Besides, most of my cars have been sticks. I’m use to driving with one hand on the wheel and the other near the shift. It’s a comfort thing.

  4. Flappers take away from the, dear l say, romanticism of swiftly driving a car down a curvy road like PCH or Mulholland Drive, l mean could you picture Steve McQueen or James Dean with Katherine Ross or Marilyn Monroe keeping their hands on the wheel. 😵‍💫
