Barrett-Jackson Cup custom-car competition resumes in January 2022

50 hand-built cars and trucks will vie for prizes culminating in Ultimate Best in Show

-

The popular Barrett-Jackson Cup custom car competition returns in January as part of the 2022 Scottsdale, Arizona, collector car auction festivities at WestWorld, the company has announced.

Presented by eBay Motors, the contest selects 50 of the top custom car and truck creations that vie for multiple prizes culminating in the selection of the Ultimate Best in Show, chosen by two renowned builders, Bobby Alloway and Troy Trepanier, as well as a People’s Choice Award that is picked by auction fans nationwide via social media.

The Barrett-Jackson Cup took place in 2021 in Scottsdale for the first time in five years, after being launched and held for three years during the company’s now-discontinued Reno, Nevada, auction.  Last year’s winner was a highly modified 1970 Dodge Challenger coupe with an engine rated at 2,000 horsepower.

“We brought back the Barrett-Jackson Cup in 2021 and it was a huge success,” Craig Jackson, chairman and chief executive of the Scottsdale-based auction company, said in a news release. “Barrett-Jackson helped pioneer the resto-mod culture, and as technology has progressed, so has the quality and workmanship in these beautiful custom vehicles we see cross our auction block throughout the year.”

The 50 Cup entries are selected by Barrett-Jackson from all the custom vehicles submitted for the contest, and they will be introduced to auction participants and spectators with a parade of the chosen vehicles across the auction stage on Saturday, January 22, which is known as Family Day and precedes the days of live bidding.

Beginning on Monday, January 24, one finalist for the top award will be selected each day until five are chosen.  They will be displayed together in the South Showcase Equidome at the WestWorld event center.

The winner of Ultimate Best of Show and of the People’s Choice Award will be announced on the auction block during Barrett-Jackson’s prime-time Saturday sale.

“We’ve seen many incredible custom vehicles cross our auction block over the years,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “We couldn’t be prouder to continue the legacy of the Barrett-Jackson Cup as we also continue to raise the profile of resto-mods and celebrate the remarkable craftsmanship and its evolution in the collector car hobby over recent years and into the future.”
