-

Up for auction on AutoHunter, driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS that is powered by a numbers-matching L78 396cid V8 paired with an M21 4-speed manual transmission.

The car is finished in its factory shade of Matador Red and has been professionally restored and with a new black vinyl top. According to the seller, all chrome and trim are in good condition, including the headlight bezels, bumpers, window trim and side moldings. You’ll find SuperSport emblems fitted on both the front grille and the black taillight panel.

Due to a production strike in 1968, this Chevelle was factory equipped with Buick interior components that consisted of black vinyl bench seats for both the front and rear along with matching door panels and carpet. A chrome shifter with a chrome know for the 4-speed is mounted on the transmission tunnel and an “SS 396” script is found on the passenger side dash.

Instrumentation on the dash includes a 120-mph speedometer, a factory roller tachometer, an analog clock and additional gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. According to the seller, the car has been driven only 64,000 miles since it was brand new.

Under the hood sits the matching-numbers 396cid V8 that has been rebuilt. It retains many of its original parts, like the Winters aluminum intake manifold and factory exhaust manifolds. The engine bay is fully restored to original condition, with the inner fenders and firewall finished in matte black. The engine block and heads are finished in the correct Chevy engine orange.

The auction ends January 20 at 11:45 a.m. MST.
