The world was saddened by the recent passing of Smokey and the Bandit star Burt Reynolds, but one lucky bidder will get a chance to own a car from the late actor’s personal collection: A 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am re-creation of the Bandit car overseen by Reynolds himself.
The actor wanted a car that was a movie-correct as possible that had some new comforts, but still retained its originality.
It appears the recreators did their job. The car has new air conditioning components and a custom-built 200-4R automatic transmission made especially for this project.
The car is powered by a rebuilt Pontiac 400cid engine with all-new Butler Performance parts.
Barrett-Jackson’s annual Las Vegas auction is scheduled for September 27-29 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
