A trio of rare Mopar muscle cars, including a “basement find” Hemi ‘Cuda driven just over 21,000 miles, highlight Worldwide Auctioneers’ second Scottsdale auction to be held January 17 during Arizona Car week.
The basement-find car is a 1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda that was purchased in 1978 and stored in a Kansas City, Missouri, basement until it was rediscovered in 2014.
“With just 21,433 miles from new and the subject of a later painstaking four-year restoration, it has a verified ‘born-with’ all original, numbers-matching drivetrain and is a pure example that retains 100 percent all-original sheet metal,” Worldwide says in a news release.
The ‘Cuda coupe, which is described as “highly optioned and impeccably documented” was featured in the September 2016 edition of Muscle Car Review. The car was the recipient of Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals’ Concours Gold Certification and a Sponsor Pick award in November 2017.
Another rarity crossing the block is a one-of-one 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible in factory Plum Crazy purple. The Challenger is one of only five Hemi/four-speed Challenger R/T convertibles built and the only Hemi/four-speed car built with 4.10:1 Super Track Pak, according to Worldwide.
The restored car is “simply an investment-grade example of what astute collectors regard the ultimate American supercar,” Worldwide auctioneer John Kruse is quoted in the news release.
A 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona Hemi with its Chrysler Broadcast Sheet and original fender tag, one of just 70 Hemi Daytonas built, rounds out the rare Mopar three. The winged warrior has been inspected and authenticated by Mopar expert Dave Wise, whose documentation report comes with the car.
“The subject of an exceptional restoration, it retains its original engine and sheet metal and has been expertly maintained ever since,” Worldwide says of the Daytona.
