AutoHunter Spotlight: LS1-Powered 1976 Porsche 914

Doing what Ferdinand couldn’t do

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this LS1-powered 1976 Porsche 914. The nitrous oxide-injected 5.7-liter V8 is mated to a Porsche Boxster S-sourced six-speed manual transmission. Features include pre-federalization chrome bumpers, HID lighting, Fuchs wheels, upgraded instrumentation and dual exhaust system. Finished in black over a black cloth and vinyl interior, this modified Porsche 914 comes with build receipts and a clear Utah title in the seller’s name.

Over the past nine years, the exterior reportedly underwent a $25,000 refinishing that included a straightened body, rolled rear fenders and a bare-metal repaint in black. Added exterior features include chrome bumpers from a 1973 914, front and rear valances, custom rocker panels, dual mirrors, newer light lenses, and newer rubber moldings and trim.

Chrome 16-inch Fuchs wheels are wrapped in Firestone Firehawk tires, 205/55 up front and 225/50 out back.

The two-seat cockpit is fitted with black cloth and vinyl buckets with matching door panels and carpeting. A 911-style instrument panel has been incorporated in the dashboard. Additional interior features include air conditioning, power windows and door locks, roll bar and JAZ Products four-point safety harnesses.

The white-faced Speedhut instrumentation includes a speedometer, tachometer and auxiliary gauges. The odometer reads 1,154 miles, which the seller indicates is accurate.

The nitrous-injected LS1 5.7-liter V8 has received an oil change from the seller in recent weeks. The engine comes with upgrades that include a performance camshaft, CNC-ported heads, custom wiring harness and computer. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission that was sourced from a Porsche Boxster S, along with custom axles and CV joints.

The chassis uses a 911 front suspension with Koni adjustable struts, while the rear employs a Porsche 914/6 setup with coilovers. The body and chassis have been reinforced on the front end and along the rockers. Recent work includes the installation of new wheel bearings and tie rod ends. Stopping power comes from recently upgraded brake calipers and cross-drilled rotors.

The auction for this LS1-powered 1976 Porsche 914 ends on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. (PDT)
