We love picking cars to be Pick of the Day when they come with a wonderful story. Take, for example, today’s Pick, this 1966 Ford Mustang (click on the link to view the advertisement).
“This iconic, 1966 Ford Mustang, 2-door hardtop has been in our family since it was driven off the showroom floor,” reports the private seller in Portland, Oregon.
“Mom finally quit driving it because guys would follow her home and try to buy it!”
Tired of declining such offers, the car went under a cover and into a garage.
Turns out, however, that “we have fond memories, but my brother wants his garage back so we have decided to let her go.”
The seller reports the car has its 289cid V8 engine topped by a 2-barrel carburetor and linked to a 3-speed manual transmission. When new, that Challenger V8 was rated at 200 horsepower; the 3-speed gearbox with floor-mounted shifter was standard equipment in ’66. Mustangs also were equipped with such newly required federal safety equipment as front and rear seatbelts, padded dash and flashing emergency lights.
This car, black with red interior, remains in unrestored condition, the seller says, with its original AM radio, and has traveled 153,226 miles since Mom drove it off the dealer’s lot.
“Fifty-six years later, this Mustang still runs like (a) champ (and) is drivable and has current tags.”
Mom’s car, with its heartwarming story, is being offered for $32,500 or best offer.
