Bolstered by the success of its recent live Indianapolis auction, which scored record results, Mecum has announced another on-site collector car auction for 2020 at the same Indiana State Fairgrounds location on October 29-31.
Calling its new event the Indy Fall Special, Mecum expects about 1,000 collector vehicles ranging from vintage American cars and trucks to modern European exotics, and everything in-between.
Like the flagship Spring Classic auction that was held live in Indy after being postponed to July, and which reached $74 million in total sales, Mecum says it will once again employ pandemic safeguards to curb transmission of COVID-19 among the many bidders, sellers and spectators who attend, as well as auction staff.
“Added protections for live Mecum auctions include mandatory daily temperature checks for all staff, vendors and attendees, required face masks, plentiful hand-sanitizing stations and a layout that encourages social distancing throughout the event and among the auction seating,” Mecum says in its announcement.
There will also be enhanced online and phone bidding taking place, according to Mecum.
Mecum has six other live, in-person auctions scheduled for 2020, with Kissimmee, Florida; Dallas; Louisville; and Chicago to be held before the fall Indianapolis sale, and Las Vegas and Houston taking place after. All are in-person auctions with pandemic protocols in place.
However, according to Mecum spokesman David Morton, Mecum’s schedule for the remainder of the year remains fluid due to the new coronavirus, and other new auctions might still be added.
While no consignments have been announced for the new October auction in Indianapolis, the auction company foresees an active array of seller and bidders, as it did at the July auction.
“Navigating the calendar has certainly been a challenge for everyone in 2020, but our goal has been and will always be to provide our customers with a successful platform to do business by way of a convenient, quality schedule of events to choose from,” Mecum Auctions chief executive Dave Magers said in the announcement.
“After the record-breaking success of the Spring Classic in July coupled with the incredible collaboration on safety procedures with the Indiana State Fairgrounds, we knew immediately that if we needed to adjust our schedule again in 2020, we were coming back to work with our partners in Indy.”
