Pick of the Day: 2018 Lexus LC 500, a near-certain future collector car

The sleek GT pushes all the right buttons for a modern keeper

-

If you are looking for a potential future collectible car, I would suggest you look east at cars from Japan. Sure, there are the obvious 20th Century choices of Nissan Z cars and Supras, but how about a newer option, such as the Lexus LC 500?

The Pick of the Day is a first-year 2018 Lexus LC 500 coupe, which offers exactly what people look for in a collector-grade car:  it is highly optioned, it was owned new by a car collector and it has low miles.

According to the St. Louis dealer advertising the Lexus on ClassicCars.com, this LC 500 is a single-collector-owned car driven only 5,177 miles.

Finished in Atomic Silver over a black leather interior, this car was ordered new with every available option including the Performance Package with Alcantara 8-way power sports seats, active rear steering, active rear spoiler, Alcantara headliner, carbon-fiber door sill and roof, and 21-inch forged alloy wheels.

Also, the Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound Audio System with 13 speakers, heads-up display, a Torsen limited slip differential, and the all-weather package featuring a heated steering wheel, windshield de-icer and Positive Temperature Coefficient Heater.

Power comes from a 471-horsepower V8 linked with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The car includes all books and records, original bill of sale and window sticker, it has just received a full service at the Lexus dealer and it’s still under the Lexus factory warranty, according to the seller.

In 2018, I drove a LC 500 from Connecticut to the Greenbrier Concours in West Virginia and was impressed with how great a GT car the LC500 is. The Lexus is capable, comfortable and looks stunning.

I showed it at the Saturday cars and coffee event before the Sunday concours and the then brand-new Lexus received more attention from people young and old than the Ferraris parked next to it.

The build quality is faultless, the Mark Levinson audio system is one of the top factory audio systems I have ever heard, second only to the one in the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

The best part about the Lexus is that you can practically guarantee that in 15 years, it will still be in amazing condition and not need thousands of dollars of repairs done.

So, if you want to latch onto something early in the future collector market, this Lexus LC 500 has an asking price of $72,900. It is truly one of the finest GT cars ever built.

  1. As a long time Lexus owner, very happily I might add, this car bombed big time for lexus. I.E. naturally aspirated engine ( read old style), synthetic materials throughout interior ( this for a $90k car). I went to buy one when first announced and was highly disappointed. Wound up with an AMG Merc, no contest. When ‘leather interior’ is stated’, it is mostly ‘ synthetic leather’. I think Lexus has had a problem with high quality materials for their interiors since the tsunami. The LC500 is a fine car but really does not compete with cars in the $90-100k range. JMO!
