The Pick of the Day was built to drive to Hot August Nights, the annual custom car celebration in Reno, Nevada, and it looks like it still would turn heads there, or anywhere else for that matter.
The car is a customized 1941 Mercury coupe being offered for sale on ClassicCars.com by its private owner in Beaverton, Oregon.
“Drives beautifully,” the owner promises. “Beautiful condition throughout.
“Built for dependability… Not a trailer queen.”
The advertisement is primarily a list of the work that went into the car’s customization, including a 3-inch chop, filled and rounded hood, B-pillar removal, custom grille is teeth from a ’53 Chevy, molded fenders and fender skirts, frenched lamps, removable/slide-in glass, Appleton spotlights, ghost flames and Mopar Cranberry paint with Lavender Pearl. The seller points out that the paint, while beautiful, is not perfect.
And that’s just the exterior. The interior features tuck-and-roll upholstery, leather-covered swivel front bucket seats, wrap-around leather rear bench seat from a Ford Thunderbird, and hand-made Banjo white-leather steering wheel.
The car has air conditioning, an electric trunk closer from a Cadillac, even a C/B radio.
The engine is a Ford 460cid, linked to a C6 automatic transmission and on to a Chevy 12-bolt rear. The car has 11-inch disc brakes up front, drums at the back.
The odometer shows 2,130 miles, presumably the mileage since the customization was completed.
