Pick of the Day: 1976 Datsun 280Z convertible

-

Yes, you read the headline correctly. The Pick of the Day is a 1976 Datsun 280Z convertible.

Yes, we know, Datsun didn’t build Z-car convertibles back in the day. And while we’re not quite sure, we suspect this is one of the convertible conversions done by Griffith Custom Coach of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

But the convertible top is only part of the story of this particular car. Beneath that long and low hood is a Ford Cobra 351 V8 engine.

“It runs great, and is fun to drive,” promises the private seller, who is located in Unicoi, Tennessee, and is advertising the car on ClassicCars.com.

“This may be a one of the kind,” the seller suggests.\

The seller reports owning the car for more than seven years, and driving it an average of 1,000 miles a year.

“It’s a Sunday car for me,” the seller notes.

“I have no idea if the mileage (on the odometer) is actual,” the seller adds; the odo shows a little more than 96,000 miles.

The car has an automatic transmission, air conditioning, AM/FM radio, power brakes and steering, and a new convertible top and tires.

“The reason for selling it is just to get a bigger convertible,” the seller adds, “so I’m open to trade. I’m getting older and we want more room for luggage, etc.”

The asking price is $13,500.
