Many of the world’s most famous golfers have traveled to the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia this week for the Masters tournament. Among them are Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, and defending champion Dustin Johnson.
To celebrate the event, we are highlighting a few of the most famous Masters champions and their collector cars.
Byron Nelson | 1971 Continental Mark 111
One of the greatest golfers of all time, Byron Nelson won his first Masters in 1937 and won again in 1942.
Nelson retired from the game in 1946 but remained heavily involved in the sport, teaching players like Tom Watson and participating in endorsement deals.
In 1971, Nelson joined the Lincoln-Mercury Sports Panel to help Mercury create a sporty image. His involvement granted him a 1971 Continental Mark III.
Arnold Palmer | 1974 Cadillac Eldorado
Arnie wore the green jacket in 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964. Like Nelson, Palmer was part of the Lincoln-Mercury Sports Panel, but when Cadillac released the Eldorado in 1974, he switched his endorsement deal to back General Motors’ luxury brand.
You might remember seeing Arnie in Cadillac’s commercial promoting the Eldorado and its new front-wheel-drive feature.
Jack Nicklaus | 1979 Pontiac Grand Le Mans Safari & 1990s Lincoln Town Cars
A force to be reckoned with, Jack Nicklaus holds the record for winning the most Masters titles – six.
Throughout his golf career, he was known for endorsing Pontiac and Lincoln.
In 1979, he endorsed Pontiac’s luxury Grand Le Mans Safari station wagon, which offered 72.4 cubic feet of storage for golf clubs.
Later, Nicklaus endorsed Motor Trend’s Car of the Year, the 1990 Lincoln Town Car. From 1992 to 1997, Town Cars were offered in a special-edition Jack Nicklaus Signature Series that included a green exterior, white top, and white leather interior with green accents.
Tiger Woods | Lamborghini Murciélago & Porsche Carrera GT
Woods, who won the Masters five times, isn’t attending this year as he recovers from his recent car crash.
However, the golf star is known for having an impressive collection of cars, including Cadillacs, Buicks, Mercedes, and others. The two cars in his collection that stand out are a Lamborghini Murciélago and Porsche Carrera GT.
Rumor has it that he’s never driven his bright yellow Lambo, which is worth upwards of $760,000.
His Carrera GT, which reaches 100mph in just 6.8 seconds, was a bit too much car for Wood’s to handle. According to ESPN, Woods took it back to the dealership after he spun off into the grass near his home. It’s unknown if he still owns the car or if he dropped it off at the dealership and never looked back.
Bubba Watson | 1969 Dukes of Hazzard Dodge Charger
Some know Watson for winning the Masters in 2012 and 2014, but he’s also a serious car collector, even part owner of a Chevrolet dealership in Florida.
In 2016, Watson announced that he’d purchased 37 cars in 12 years, the most notable being the 1969 Dukes of Hazzard Dodge Charger he picked up at Barrett-Jackson’s 2012 Arizona auction. The car was autographed by John Schneider, the actor who played Bo Duke in the TV series.
Adam Scott | Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster
Australian golfer Adam Scott won the 2013 Masters and, to date, is the only Australian winner of the prestigious tournament.
In an article with Vanity Fair, Scott said his first “real” car purchase was a 2002 Mercedes-Benz SL500. A decade or so later, Scott was seen driving around Queensland in an SLS AMD Roadster with gull-wing doors.
