2002 BMW Z8 fit for Her Majesty’s Secret Service

The Pick of the Day is a low-mileage example of a James Bond favorite

-

Being a major fan of James Bond and his cars, I have owned a few over the years, a 1996 BMW Z3 007 Edition that I still have and, many years ago, an Aston Martin DBS in Silver Birch. One of the recent 007 movie cars that I always wanted is a BMW Z8.

The Z8 is is likely to be the last hand-built BMW car model we will ever see. These magnificent sports cars are stunningly retro in design but also offer tremendous performance, so good that a Z8 can out accelerate and out handle a Ferrari 360. Add to that the ease of use of the Z8 and you have a perfect big-engine roadster.

BMW

The Pick of the Day is a 2002 BMW Z8 that has covered only 29,830 miles from new, and finished in the James Bond colors of Titanium Silver Metallic with black leather.

It has had only three owners from new, according to the St. Louis, Missouri, dealer advertising the BMW on ClassicCars.com, and it includes its factory hardtop, for which all Z8 cars were supplied as they were designed with the hardtop as an integral component.

BMW

Introduced at the 1997 Tokyo Auto Show, the Z8 is constructed with an aluminum body and chassis, and powered by a 4.9-liter V8 with 400 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque, which makes for a 0-60 time of 4.2 seconds, as tested by Car and Driver magazine.

The Z8 has a front mid-engine design whereby the engine is placed behind the front axle in order to achieve a near perfect 50/50 weight distribution. It’s a very low-production automobile with only 5,703 cars built, with 2,543 produced for the U.S.

The car also includes complete service records and all books and complete toolkit that it shopped with when new.  The service history indicates that the car has always had every service item attended to and recently received a complete service that included all new drive belts, new engine oil and filter, engine air filter, new cabin air filter, new power steering reservoir hose, a brake fluid flush, and new trunk support struts. In addition, the MAF sensor was cleaned and the factory upgraded steel oil pan drain plug insert.

The Z8 is a very special vehicle, a true supercar that can be driven daily. Comfortable as a daily driver or a cross-country touring car, this one would be perfect to use and enjoy without the concerns of reducing its value as it already has some miles on the odometer.

The asking price is $159,900, which sounds like a good deal for this Z8 with its James Bond flair.

  1. Unfortunately it never had the front strut tower support brace installed. It was a factory recall and warranty item. The front strut towers were prone to cracking without it. The bad the 28,000 were put into n the car without it…

  2. I’m very surprised that you can get this car for that money. Over here in Europe they go for 200,000 plus €.
A Customer of mine has one, absolutley incredible. I own a 69 Chevelle SS and I find very few cars are as attractive, this one is. If I had 150,000.- I’d buy it hands down!
