The Bentley Continental R Fastback is one of the most-spectacular car designs in the history of automobiles. There is just something about the lines of these cars that embodies perfection.
But it seems that everyone else in the world also thinks so, so the prices for these cars hover somewhere around $1 million.
Another car that pre-dates the Bentley and has quite similar lines that, and surprisingly comes from the United States, is the Pick of the Day, a 1941 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette.
The Series 62 Cadillac as a model ran from 1940 all the way until 1964, with different bodies as design ideas changed. The golden age for these cars was the first and second series cars, built from 1940 through 1947.
The lines of these Caddies, especially the two-door Sedanette (which was officially known as the Club Coupe) were perfect, and one has to wonder whether they had an influence on the design of the Bentley.
According to the seller advertising the Cadillac on ClassicCars.com, this car is very smooth running and drives well, powered by its original 346 cid flathead V8 engine and original 3-speed manual transmission. The car needs nothing mechanically, the seller adds.
Options on this car include a factory heater, dual spotlights, fender skirts, fog lights, and wide whitewall tires. It also still has its original spare tire, jack, clock and radio.
The Sedanette is rust-free, solid and straight, the seller says, and one repaint in its original color many years ago, with all the chrome in excellent condition, as is the glass. The interior is clean and correct, the seller adds, with no rips or tears.
With an asking price of $44,495, it is a definite bargain in comparison with that Bentley.
