AutoHunter Spotlight: 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350 SL

The first year for U.S.-spec R107 SLs

-

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350 SL convertible, which has lived its entire live in the dry climes of California and Arizona. It is powered by a fuel-injected 4.5-liter V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes console, disc brakes and air conditioning. Finished in red over light tan interior, this R107 350 SL comes with a color-matched removable hardtop plus hardtop cart, service and owner’s manuals, and a clear title.

The Red finish is complemented by a black cloth convertible top. Exterior features include quad U.S.-spec headlights, fog lamps, chrome mirror caps, bodyside moldings and pre-regulation chrome bumpers with overriders.

Steel 14-inch wheels with body-colored and chrome wheel covers are wrapped in 205/70R14 Hankook Kinergy tires.

The interior is fitted with light tan MB-Tex bucket seats that are complemented by matching center console and door panels. Other amenities include power windows, analog clock and upgraded AM/FM/cassette radio.

Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, 7,000-rpm tachometer and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The six-digit analog odometer reads 140,000 miles, which the seller states is correct.

The M117 4.5-liter V8 was rated at 190 net horsepower when new and is said to have received a major service recently. The muffler and under-hood insulation have also been replaced. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted three-speed automatic transmission.

Four-wheel power disc brakes bring the Mercedes to a stop.

The auction for this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350 SL ends on Friday, April 7, 2023, at 3:40 p.m. (PDT)
