You know a collector car has been well-preserved when you see that it’s been stored in a bubble-like inflatable car capsule. This showroom-fresh Chevrolet pickup is one of those vehicles.
The Pick of the Day is a low-mileage 2005 Chevrolet SSR listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Amsterdam, New York. (Click the link to view the listing)
“One owner, super low mileage, pampered SSR,” the listing states. “Garage-kept, always stored indoors with a California cover, never seen snow.”
Showing just 4,757 miles on the odometer, this 18-year-old roadster has been preserved as a true collector vehicle. The listing includes a photo of the vehicle in the garage while also enclosed in the capsule.
The name SSR comes from the “Super Sport Roadster,” which was first shown in concept form at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2000. The production vehicle was later sold between 2003 and 2006 as a two-door “roadster utility” on the General Motors GMT368 platform.
As the early 2000s were an era when retro-styled automotive design was all the rage, the SSR’s styling was derivative of Chevrolet’s Advance Design pickups from the late 1940s and early 1950s. The retractable hardtop was built by American Sunroof Corporation (ASC); this was one of many custom builds that ASC produced over the years, including a recently-shared Toyota Celica convertible.
The exterior of this SSR is coated in stunning Slingshot Yellow, and the windshield sticker shows a $48,770 retail price including destination. Optional equipment for that fee included the Preferred Equipment Group (memory seats, an engine cover insert, heated driver and passenger seats, Bose audio and more), along with chrome-plated wheels, auxiliary gauges, a cockpit windbreak and customized floor mats.
For the SSR’s initial two model years, it was powered by a 5.3-liter LM4 V8, and for the last two, it had a 6.0-liter LS2 V8. This SSR benefits from the power bump of the mid-model change, and the window sticker states that output was rated at 390 horsepower. Even though the miles are exceptionally low, the seller states that the oil has been changed bi-annually using Mobil One synthetic.
“Fantastic car – runs excellent and is ready for a new home,” the listing concludes. “Photos and low mileage speak for themselves!” A two-minute video is included in the listing which illustrates exterior, interior, and engine bay views. It also shows a demonstration of the power-retractable hardtop.
The seller is asking $42,000 for this well-kept SSR, which includes a car cover (but does NOT include that nifty “car capsule” bag, unfortunately).
