Review: 2022 Lexus LC 500h (4K)

A sight to behold

-

There’s something about a sleek stance, sharp lines and distinctive curves in design that really does it for me. Upon the delivery of our 2022 Lexus LC 500h, I was eager to get in the driver’s seat to experience the hype around this stylish and sophisticated luxury hybrid coupe. With ample power from its hybrid powertrain and state-of-the-art technology, the LC 500h stands out in a world of high-end automobiles.

Notwithstanding its gran turismo pretensions, the LC 500h is a true luxury car featuring meticulous attention to detail with premium materials, such as carbon fiber, aluminum and Alcantara, to give an impression of craftsmanship and elegance. The cabin is spacious and comfortable—at least up front — with supportive seats and plenty of legroom for both driver and passenger. The seats, door panels and center console are trimmed in high-quality leather. The power-adjustable front seats are equipped with both heating and cooling functions to stay comfortable no matter the climate. A wireless charging pad is located in the center console for easy charging of devices.

Under the hood is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that is paired with two electric motors for a total output of 354 horsepower with 369 lb-ft of torque (compare that with the LC 500’s 5.0-liter V8 with 471 horses). This helps the Lexus to achieve a 0-60 mph sprint in about five seconds, making it one of the quickest hybrid sports cars on the market. With a comfortable and balanced ride, the coupe’s suspension absorbs bumps without sacrificing handling precision. The steering is responsive and precise, and the brakes offer a strong and consistent pedal feel.

The standout feature of the LC 500h is its advanced hybrid powertrain, which uses a unique multi-stage shifting system to seamlessly switch between electric and gas power. This allows the car to deliver a nice balance of performance and fuel efficiency, with an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The driving modes include Normal, Sport, Sport+, Eco, Comfort, and Custom – select a preset or tailor the performance and sport-tuned suspension to your specific preferences. You also can opt for an available Torsen limited-slip differential.

In terms of safety, the LC 500h is equipped with a group of advanced driver assists, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning. The included head-up display projects important information (such as speed and navigation directions) onto the windshield, allowing you to always keep your eyes on the road.

Overall, this is truly an impressive vehicle with clever engineering. Its powerful hybrid powertrain, luxurious cabin, and advanced tech features give it distinction in the world of hybrid sports cars.

Though traditionalists may have trouble foregoing the regular V8 LC 500, the LC 500h just may surpass your expectations, whether you’re seeking an exhilarating driving experience or a comfortable and effective daily driver. Check out our video review for a more in-depth look at the various features, including special Bespoke Build items like carbon fiber roof and rear wing spoiler plus Manhattanhenge Alcantara and Satin Metallic-trimmed tangerine interior.
