My Classic Car: A Wedding Present Instills a Family Love of Cars

-

My wife and I were married in 1968 and as a wedding present I purchased her a brand new 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396.

When we celebrated our 50th anniversary, we returned to the same hotel where we spent our honeymoon (Disneyland) with our two grown kids, their spouses, and three beautiful granddaughters. We had a three bedroom suite and shared and re-shared our wedding pictures along with the Camaro.

We were fortunate that we lived very close to where my wife worked and the need to drive the Camaro was minimal (today it has 33,2053 actual miles).

When both of our children turned 16, they took their driving test in the Camaro. Their instructor was greatly impressed with their respect for the car and its big motor. The kids use the car from time-to-time to share with their kids, including school events or special photo opportunities.

Mom and I take it to a few local car shows along with the granddaughters ,and what a time they have riding in Gram’s car! Going fast with the windows down, what a thrill, as much for Gram and me as the girls.

This picture is of our son and daughter and the first of our 3 granddaughters.

Both of our kids have classic cars or trucks and each Father’s Day we all get together to have a private car show along with BBQ here at the house our kids were raised in.
