Need A Nudge to Achieve Your Automotive Dreams?

The Petersen Automotive Museum launches free auto design course

-

Are you like me and you are an automotive enthusiast, yet you cannot draw if your life depended on it? Is there some disconnect between your brain and the fingers holding your pen? Then listen up, artistically challenged folks, because the Petersen Automotive Museum has just the thing to get your design mojo going.

The Los Angeles-based automotive museum has teamed up with Yellowbrick, “a global leader in online education and career exploration,” for a free online course led by leaders in vehicle design. Auto Design & Sketching is your path to your automotive dreams! The course is self-paced so you can bring your drawing talent to the forefront on your own time without getting in the way of your soul-sucking corporate gig.

“We designed this course to simplify and illuminate a path to a career in automotive design,” says Justin Wolske, director, partnerships & strategic initiatives for Yellowbrick. “High-level training in this field isn’t always easily accessible, but we’ve removed some of those barriers by offering the program at no cost and involving an esteemed lineup of contributors.”

There are three modules within the course: Design Principles & History, Famous Case Studies, and Let’s Draw, the latter focusing on sketching exercises.

So, who are these design warlords who will be guiding you in your path to automotive success? Among them are luminaries such as Ralph Gilles (Chief Design Officer, Stellantis), Christine Feuell (Brand CEO, Chrysler), Francesc Arenas (Design Director, Hispano Suiza) and Roman Yneges (Faculty, Art Center College of Design) for guidance. And if you are an EV geek, then maybe Franz von Holzhausen (Chief Designer, Tesla Motors) will push you over the top.

The first module has already launched, with the second and third to be available soon in December and January 2023. As long as you are 13 years old or older and you have an email address, you will be able to participate.

It’s that easy? Sure, but remember: drawing is one thing but, once you actually know how to create future automotive designs, only then will you truly be all set.

Diego Rosenberg
Lead Writer Diego Rosenberg is a native of Wilmington, Delaware and Princeton, New Jersey, giving him plenty of exposure to the charms of Carlisle and Englishtown. Though his first love is Citroen, he fell for muscle cars after being seduced by 1950s finned flyers—in fact, he’s written two books on American muscle. But please don’t think there is a strong American bias because foreign weirdness is never far from his heart. With a penchant for underground music from the 1960-70s, Diego and his family reside in the Southwest.
