The Corvette Indy Concept was an attempt by Chevrolet to develop a mid-engine Corvette in the 1980s. Power was to be provided by a twin-turbo 2.65-liter Indy V8 rumored to generate 600 bhp and the body would be made of carbon fiber and Kevlar.

The highly advanced Corvette would feature four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering in a package that has a strong resemblance to the Jaguar XJ220.

The Indy was unveiled at the 1986 Detroit Auto Show, but with a 5.7-liter V8 engine that propelled it from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds. But alas, like many concept cars it never made it to production.

  1. While it may look like the generic Euro supercar of today, lets keep in mind that this was a concept from 36 years ago. Knowing that, it is quite impressive- but it looks totally generic today. I’d prefer it to be angular and pointy- rather like a fighter jet than a skipping stone.

  2. The C7 was the last of the Corvettes. Everything coming down the pipe now is simply a Eurocar trash compactor. A true Corvette is front engine, rear wheel drive. Period.

  3. I don’t think the question was whether or not to manufacture it today. For it’s time, this concept car was outstanding.
