Is a Chevrolet El Camino a car or a truck? I’ve been thinking about this concept sporadically for the last three decades and I switch my answer a lot. I guess I could go by how the El Cam’s vehicle type is determined by insurance companies and federal agencies, but alas I ponder this question like a dumber version of Socrates.
Dear readers, I need your help with this one. Do you consider an El Camino a truck or a car?

I owned a 1977 El Camino. I bought it specifically to haul things. Here’s how I describe the one I had:
It’s a truck, which has the front of a Chevrolet car and the smooth boat ride of a Cadillac!

I own a 1959 Elcamino I have owned it for 44 years and Chevrolet has always maintain the the ElCamino is a car , but the sedan delivery version was only advertised and listed as a truck ??

It has a truck bed and box where you can externally put material..its a truck
When I first read the question, ” Do you consider an El Camino a truck or a car?”. My first inclinations was to say, yes! I have owned several, 1 1967 (and a parts car) 1 1969 ( and a parts car) 2 1971’s (both drivers) and a 1978
It has a BED…it is a TRUCK. Same think I tell people about my Hyundai Santa Cruz.
It’s both, yet neither. A “lifestyle” vehicle, much like a real Jeep.
I have a 1972 El Camino for sale $60,000 always garaged. Grey with black stripes on hood and black vinyl top, original and looks great. It has a LT-1 Corvette engine 5.7 Liter. My phone number is 858-945-2485 it was mainly in California . I had to move back to Yukon, Oklahoma 3 years ago, so now it is in the garage in Oklahoma.
