AutoHunter Spotlight: 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger 340

Inspired by Plymouth, the Dodge Boys create a new Scat Pack member

-

After the success of the Plymouth Road Runner, Dodge applied the same formula (read: cheap performance) to its compact A-body series in 1969 and came up with the affordable Dart Swinger 340 hardtop to join the Dart GTS.

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this metallic bronze 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 featuring several upgrades including headers and electronic ignition. This Dart is offered by the selling dealer with receipts, documentation, owner’s manual and a clear Mississippi title.

Repainted under prior ownership in the late 1980s, this 1969 Dart Swinger 340 features a black bumblebee stripe, which was a characteristic of Dodge Scat Pack cars of the era. Notable accessories include Hotchkis hood pins and chrome dual exhaust tips. The selling dealer notes there are some blemishes on the exterior, including bubbling on the driver-side rear lower quarter panel, which can be seen in detail in the gallery.

Chrome 15-inch Cragar S/S wheels are wrapped in blackwall tires.

The custom interior is fitted with power-operated two-tone brown vinyl bucket front seats and a matching rear bench. The dash pad, door panels, lap belts, carpet and headliner all match the seats. A B&M shifter handles chores for the TorqueFlite automatic transmission. A Kenwood stereo with speakers in the kick panels makes for a more enjoyable ride to the nearest cruise.

The factory 120-mph speedometer is complemented by a host of gauges and idiot lights, but an aftermarket AutoMeter gauge cluster keeps tabs on the oil pressure, coolant temperature and amps. Odometer reads 29K miles though the true mileage is unknown.

The 340 reportedly is the numbers-matching block, and it likely puts out more than the factory-rated 275 horsepower thanks to the addition of Hooker Headers, MSD ignition, and Fram oil pump and filter. Note the Mopar Performance valve covers.

Chrome traction bars allow the rear tires to have more bite. More underside pictures can be viewed in the gallery.
