Question of the Day: What option can you not do without in a car?

I live in the Southwest and I can’t really can’t go without air conditioning for half of the year. A/C is a necessity for those of us out here, or who reside in other scorching climates, and in the same vein all-wheel drive could be a necessity for those in snowy climates.

So dear readers, What option can you not do without in a car?

Diego Rosenberg
Lead Writer Diego Rosenberg is a native of Wilmington, Delaware and Princeton, New Jersey, giving him plenty of exposure to the charms of Carlisle and Englishtown. Though his first love is Citroen, he fell for muscle cars after being seduced by 1950s finned flyers—in fact, he’s written two books on American muscle. But please don’t think there is a strong American bias because foreign weirdness is never far from his heart. With a penchant for underground music from the 1960-70s, Diego and his family reside in the Southwest.

  1. 1) A/C, including cooled seats
    2) Cruise Control
    3) Automatic Transmission
    4) Great Stereo system, w/CD player (I own LOTS!)
    5) Power EVERYTHING!!!

    • I was going to say air conditioning but that’s not really an option anymore so I will go with at least 495 hp and a rag top

  2. AC is a definite must, the weather here in the Southeast is generally hot and humid for spring till fall. As a personal must have is a sirus/xm radio I need my oldies and the news and weather to spend hours behind the wheel.

  3. AC and heat are a big one but can do without if needed, But I must have a cup holder for my “drive around” coffee…..

  4. I can do without Power steering, A/C (live in Phoenix), Auto Trans and I agree with Chuck, give me the Hi horsepower option every time.

    • I can get behind you on skipping the power steering and auto transmission, but to me AC is a must. Also cruise control. I don’t know how you can do without A/C in phoenix. I was there once and it was 118 in the shade.

  5. Guess A/C is no longer an option just costs more. Need that and electric 6 way seats with lumbar support like my 92 SHO. Have a bad back. Delete the infotainment .
