An almost dead style of car that was likely pushed away by SUVs. The station wagon is still around but it’s numbers are dwindling, and for those us raised on the Brady Bunch an oversized station wagon is comfort food.

Olds Vista Cruiser
I took a couple of trips to Colorado in an Olds Vista Cruiser S/W, so it holds a special place in my heart. The 350 Olds Rocket engine was very dependable, and gave us surprisingly good gas mileage. As far as later cars, the Buick Regal TourX is a very good looking car.
The Ford Country Squire, 65-67. Great old station wagon. We used to deliver news papers around the neighborhood with the tailgate down, sitting on the back, my dad driving.
The Cadillac V is an awesome rendition of a modern wagon. Love the Olds Vista Cruiser but pretty hard to argue that ’72 Torino Country Squire is not one the prettiest wagons from the seventies!

1959 Chevrolet Station Wagon, our Family had a light blue/white when I was young. My Brother and I used to sit in the small seat that looked out the back window
’55 – ’57 Nomad’s we’re iconic same with the ’57-’58 Ford Country Squire but my favorite is the ’69-’71 Plymouth Sport Suburban with the 383 or 440 ci under the hoods. Definitely miss all those wagons from years past.
I have a 1965 ford falcon squire wagon. Wood grain side panels , dark green in color. I am the second owner. Has a 289 v8 , a/ t trans . I have know this car since new, and had been trying to purchase it for years. I finally was able to get it, a great fun little car. Have taken it to man6 shows and everyone that sees it , has great memories of the past. It’s a head turner for sure. I will hang on to this car for a very long time. Cars of today have no style. They all look the same. Ony way to tell them apart is by the manufacture logo. And then some times even that look alike .

Without a doubt the ’64-’72 Buick Sportwagons and Oldsmobile Vista Cruisers.

Best memories after my wife and I got married, had kids and went to a single income, sold our two nice cars and went to a 1 car family, bought a used (but super low milage) 1990 Chev Caprice estate wagon, full lumber package, other than the dog of a 307 engine (GM must of had these sitting somewhere on a shelf), that car was great, parts were cheap, easy to maintain and parts were practically available at Safeway…
First the ’64 – ’67 Buick Sportwagon, followed by the late-model Buick Regal TourX. OK, ’57 Buick Caballeros need to be listed too — actually maybe at the top.

1986 Mercury Colony Park, the back made into a huge bedroom, you wouldn’t believe what long-legged Amy could do in there!
WHOAAA, wait a minute everybody. Yes Nomads, Vista Cruisers and Country Squires were great wagons but my daily driver is a 2005 Dodge MagnumSXT with almost 300,000 KM’s on her.
My ’06 Audi A4 Quattro Avant 2.0T was my retirement present to myself after 30 years in a tractor factory. During breaks I would read road tests in car mags. Road & Track said Audi’s quattro drive loved twisty roads just like the one I now live on in Tennessee. Best car I have ever owned and R&T was so right.
Oh yeah! That would be my pick for today, especially up here in the Smoky Mountains.

I had a Ford LTD Land Cruiser, I recall it was a 1970. I learned a lot about cars repairing it and keeping it running when I was a poor broke teenager. It also was extremely fast, could climb mountains and go anywhere my friends went in their pickups. It had the best a/c of any car I’ve owned at any price. With extra air ents on the base of the dash right between your legs.
It was huge, ugly, and a do-anything go-anywhere beast and I loved it.
I always wanted a station wagon, in our family, when I was a kid, like many of friends, neighbors and my Scout master had…their were all shapes and sizes of wagons in the 1950’s and 1960’s, like the 1957 Pontiac Safari Wagon, my Scoit master had, the 1961 Rambler American Wagon had, and the 1957 Ford Country Wagon, the Youth leader at Church had, to name a few.
As I got older, I was offered my choice of a 1973 Impala Custom, or the top of the line Wagon, as my Company car…loved that Wagon. A few later, I had the need of a Station wagon, and the opportunity to Purchase a 1984 Mercedes TDT 300 vStation wagon, that was one year old, with approximately 2,000 actual miles, for a very good price…that was my favorite Station wagon, for 11 trouble free years…I still have sellers remorse.
If I was to come across, a fully loaded, 1976 Buick Electra Estate Station Wagon, with low mileage, in really nice condition, I would have a Station wagon, the Station wagon, I always wanted, in the 1970’s, when my sons were growing up.
Weve had two Mercedes Benz wagons, as our ‘Second car, as empty nester Grandparents, a 1885 that was Purchased new, and a 2003 with less than 20,000 miles, that was ‘Certified Pre Owned’, from our local MBZ dealer,. We put over a 100,000 trouble free miles, on each of them…fantastic Automobiles.
Old school I’m partial to 60 or 61 Chrysler hardtop wagons. Newer I’d go for the Caddy CTS-V with stick or a Dodge Magnum SRT8.

My absolute favorite wagon is, the 1957 Pontiac Star Chief Safari- the Goddess of all wagons!
Don’t forget the Studebaker and Rambler Station Wagons – very cool 2 and 4 door models.
