’48 Daimler, ’30 Indian take honors at Boca Raton

The weekend before The Amelia, the 15th annual Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance took place further down Florida’s Atlantic coastline, with Mark Hyman’s 1948 Daimler DE-36 “Green Goddess” drophead coupe winning Best of Show Automobile and with James Sabino’s 1930 Indian 402 winning Best of Show Motorcycle.

The multi-day event featured entertainer Howie Mandel,  NASCAR racing star Jeff Gordon, and Kia America president SeungKyu Yoon, and raised money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County.

Dates for the 2023 concours are February 24-26.

EyesOn Design shares 2022 poster

What now might become Detroit’s “other” concours, what with the launch of the new Detroit concours by Hagerty, EyesOn Design at Ford House has unveiled its poster for 2022. Titled “Designed for Speed,” the artwork by Ed Tillrock, features a Shelby Daytona Coupe and honors Peter Brock, the car’s designer, who will receive the lifetime design achievement award at the event.

Scheduled for June 17-19, EyesOn is organized by the Detroit Institute of Ophthamology and by auto designers working in automakers’ studios.

In addition to Brock, others receiving awards at the event at Jack Roush, Charles Nearburg and Ken Lingenfelter.

The event is held on the grounds of the historic home of Edsel and Eleanor Ford.  

71st Sacramento Autorama is set

The 71st annual Sacramento Autorama is scheduled for April 29 to May 1 at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds, where more than 500 hot rods, customs, lowriders, muscle cars, trucks and motorcycles will be on display. Another 400 vehicles are expected for the 14th annual Sacramento Autorama Drive-In event.

Special Autorama features this year include a Tri-Five Chevy section and a Lowrider Showcase, as well as 25 car clubs participating in the Butch Gardner Club House. The event also will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the ’32 Ford.

Italian teams sweep winter rally

Three teams from Italy mounted the podium at the conclusion of the Coppa delle Alpi 2022, a vintage rally staged in winter conditions and that crossed three nations and drew entries from 13 countries. Gianmario Fontanella and Anna Maria Covelli won in a 1939 Lancia Aprilla, with a 1937 Fiat 508 C second and a 1938 Fiat 508 C third.

The event is part of the 1000 Miglia rally series.

BRM V16s challenge Shelsley Walsh hill

BRM-powered Can-Am car

Organizers of the annual Classic Nostalgia weekend, set this year for July 16-17, at the Shelsley Walsh hill climb circuit in the UK have announced a series of demonstration runs to be made by the new BRM P15 V16 and more than 20 vintage BRM racing cars.

BRM (British Racing Motors) is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, and its history includes its founding by Raymond Mays, who had a long history in hill climbs, with 21 victories, most of them while driving for ERA (English Racing Automobiles).

Among the BRM vehicles taking part in the runs up the hill in July will be the V16-powered P154 driven in the Can-Am series by Pedro Rodriguez.
