Saying goodbye to my Legend

I recently sold my 1990 Acura Legend on AutoHunter

-

The Legend lives on, at least in the case of one automotive enthusiast named Brad, who sealed the deal on AutoHunter this month for my 1990 Acura Legend LS coupe after winning the car via no-reserve auction.

While referring to a vehicle from the 1990s a “classic” is sure to make many of us feel old, the reality is that the collector marketplace has evolved to include well-preserved vehicles from that era, and this car was no exception. Accompanying the car were extensive service records, a window sticker, manuals, and promotional materials – all the requisite swag that should accompany any show car.

The Legend model was Acura’s flagship from the brand’s launch in 1986 until its successor, the RL, debuted a decade later. The Legend delivered reliable V6 power, an available manual transmission, and both coupe and sedan body styles. As a current owner of a white second-generation Legend coupe, Brad was eager to acquire the same car from the first-generation body style, and this 1990 fit the bill. The 32-year-old car has accrued over 250,000 miles in its lifetime, but Honda’s robust engines are known to go twice that mileage and even beyond with routine maintenance and care.

Brad is a long-time Honda and Acura collector and enthusiast, having owned a number over the years. Conveniently, Brad and his family were planning to be in the area for a family wedding and the timing aligned for them to be able to drive the car home from Arizona to Colorado. When the family of four and all their luggage had a tight fit in the Legend coupe, I offered them my 2013 ILX as a “rental” for their short stay in Arizona. Brad joked, “I’m glad this was a two-for-one auction sale!”

The car collector community is a tight-knit family, especially in enthusiast circles, and one of the most rewarding aspects of selling a few cars from my collection online has been meeting the exceptional people who purchase them. This Legend was the 5th vehicle I have auctioned a no reserve on AutoHunter over the last couple of years, and each time I have done business with highly professional and kind folks. My Acuras have gone on to lead new lives in California, New York, Virginia, and now Colorado.

As a seller, it is nice to see a vehicle go to a good home, and this one certainly did. Congratulations, Brad, and here’s to hoping your ownership experience is legendary.
